Stepping up to Volunteer

by
Man and a young boy in front of a fire truck volunteering after Hurricane Irma.

We’ve all done it. Put in a few hours here and there to help at a local school event or group activity where many hands make light work. But how do you take that next step to provide assistance when it’s a matter of life and death?

Hurricane evacuees flocked to local shelters, many filled to capacity, needing trained volunteers to alleviate long lines and frustrations. I took that next step to receive Red Cross ‘Shelter Fundamentals’ training for the next round of the inevitable.

A few short hours, and you’re ready and trained to help when needed! Step 1.
