TCC gets a new name

by The 100 Companies

Starting Monday, July 1, Tallahassee Community College will be known as Tallahassee State College. Last week, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed legislation (SB 522) updating TCC’s name to fit alongside other members of the Florida College System, most of which changed from the name “community colleges” to “state colleges” in the late 2000s.

Tallahassee State College is technically the institution’s third name – it was founded in 1966 as Tallahassee Junior College before becoming Tallahassee Community College in 1970. Tallahassee Republican Sen. Corey Simon sponsored the name change bill, with Port St. Joe Republican Rep. Jason Shoaf carrying the companion legislation in the House.
