The Emancipation Proclamation was an executive order given by President Abraham Lincoln declaring all people held as slaves to be free. While the original proclamation was given in 1863, you can experience a piece of important national history.
On May 20, the John G. Riley House Museum will present the annual reenactment of the Emancipation Proclamation on the steps of the Knott House Museum. Other events include a commemorative grave decorating service, a Union soldier reenactment ( with 21-gun salute) to honor fallen soldiers, a historical tradition of the ancestors and a live string quartet. A free lunch is also provided.
