One of Florida’s most savvy politicians and one of Florida State University’s greatest advocates has died. T.K. Wetherell died Dec. 16 after a 15-year battle with cancer.

T.K. played wide receiver for the Seminoles before serving as president of FSU from 2003-2010, Before that, he spent 12 years in the Florida Legislature, serving as speaker from 1990-1992. He was a colorful politician, often remembered for his “Silver Beach” project, which Lucy Morgan details in her Florida Phoenix tribute.
