Most of Florida’s new laws went into effect on July 1, Oct. 1 or immediately upon the Governor’s signature. Here are a few which became official on Jan. 1.

Health insurance coverage for opioids. Prevents insurance policies from requiring prior authorization for patients to obtain abuse-deterrent versions of medications.

Retail sale of dextromethorphan (DMX). Those under 18 are prohibited from purchasing over-the-counter cough suppressants containing DMX.

Service of process on financial institutions. Allows for the designation of a place or registered agent within the state as the sole location or agent for service of process and notice.
