The Gift of the Magi

by

While shopping for that perfect gift, we are reminded of the love and sacrifice demonstrated by Jim and Della in The Gift of the Magi. She sold her long hair to afford Jim’s watch chain, and he sold his watch to buy Della’s hair combs.

O. Henry compared them to the three wise men: “But in a last word to the wise of these days let it be said that of all who give gifts these two were the wisest. Of all who give and receive gifts, such as they are wisest. Everywhere they are wisest. They are the Magi.”
