When Dr. Laura Jepsen built her cottage she was inspired by the beauty of a single tree on her property. The Florida State University English professor built a 16th Century Tudor-style cottage.
The tree, however, is the main attraction. The massive trunk of the live oak sends limbs out in all directions, draping to the ground. The moss covering adds to the romance, a nod to its early days dating back to Shakespeare.
Jepsen’s goal to protect the ancient tree was cemented in history in 2006 when the property was added to the United States National Registry of Historic Places.
