According to Karl Pillemer, a professor of human development at Cornell University, 9 out of 10 adult grandchildren cite their grandparents as a key influence in their lives. President Jimmy Carter agreed. In 1978, he declared the first Sunday after Labor Day would be set aside to honor grandparents.
On Sept. 10, we recognize the important role our grandmothers and grandfathers play in our lives, from teaching us about our ancestors and inspiring family traditions, to serving as role models and providing a constant source of love and support.
Be sure to thank the grandparents in your life on Sunday.
