Honoring our past and present leaders on Presidents Day

Presidents Day is celebrated on the third Monday in February. The holiday was initially established in the 1880s to commemorate the birthday of the first president, George Washington. Following the passage of the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, the holiday commonly came to be known as Presidents Day.

The act was an effort to produce more three-day weekends for the nation’s workers. Presidents Day is now popularly observed as a day to celebrate all United States presidents. In its modern form, Presidents Day is used by patriotic and historical organizations as a date for orchestrating celebrations, reenactments and other events.
