“Lighthouses played a critical role in Florida’s history; making it possible to explore, settle and develop Florida by using its 1,350 miles of coastline,” states the Florida Lighthouse Association website.
The oldest lighthouse in Florida is the Amelia Island Lighthouse and it is located near the northern end of Amelia Island. It is the only one from the Territorial Period that has survived without a major rebuilding.
