Voters had high expectations after the 2016 elections when Floridians approved the legalization of medical marijuana by 71 percent. In late June, Gov. Scott signed SB 8A, laying the framework for Florida’s medical marijuana regulations.
The bill calls for the Department of Health to develop regulatory rules for full implementation, which were just set last week. At least 10 Florida companies will now be allowed to legally grow marijuana and doctors can begin prescribing marijuana to patients by October 3.
Patients may be prescribed medical marijuana in the form of pills, oils, edibles or vaping. The law still prohibits smoking.
