Neighboring counties just three hours south of Tallahassee will need an additional area code. “The 407” is running out of phone numbers, so the Public Service Commission (PSC) has approved a new area code for Central Florida – 689.
Interestingly, especially for 2018, this determination is based on recommendations made by a company called Neustar, the designated North American Numbering Plan Administrator in charge of area code planning nationwide.
The new area code will be used for following counties: Orange, Osceola, Seminole and parts of Lake and Volusia. Hopefully, those transitioning don’t have area code identity crisis.
