Honoring first lady Barbara Bush

by
Barbara Bush

As the nation mourned the passing of one of America’s national treasures, former first lady Barbara Bush wouldn’t have wanted anyone to make a big fuss.

Tributes from world leaders, flags ordered to fly at half-staff and media stories dominated. One was appropriately left with the impression she was an approachable, humorous, no-nonsense woman.

Through The Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy she believed, “The American Dream is about equal opportunity for everyone who works hard. If we don’t give everyone the ability to simply read and write, then we aren’t giving everyone an equal chance to succeed.”
