A recent story highlighted an Orlando restaurant worker who courageously reported her concerns about a quiet, bruise-covered boy to authorities. Because of her, they discovered that he was a victim of severe child abuse, leading to the immediate arrest of his parents.
While the woman’s response seems intuitive, child abuse goes unreported every day in Florida. In fact, at the onset of the pandemic, reports drastically declined, only beginning to rise to normal levels within the last few months.
If you know or suspect child abuse is occurring, don’t wait or overthink it — call the Florida Abuse Hotline at 1-800-962-2873.
