Annual legislative session boosts Tallahassee’s economy

Downtown area restaurant owners, hotel staff and even Uber drivers will tell you legislative session is big business for Tallahassee. The annual legislative session brings 160 legislators, along with even more staff and lobbyists, who all make Tallahassee their home for 60 days.

According to an economic study, Leon County’s second and third quarters, which include the months of session, bump up by 10-15% compared to the other two quarters.

Despite this, Rep. Bill Hager of Delray Beach has sponsored a bill to study the cost savings of moving the Capitol to Orlando. Currently, there is no Senate sponsor.
