As Florida’s Presidential Preference Primary is Tuesday, all eyes are on the prize of the state’s 219 delegates to the Milwaukee Democratic Convention in July. However, Florida is not a winner-take-all state, as the Democratic National Committee rules operate on a national basis for the Democratic Party delegates.
Delegates are awarded on a proportional basis to candidates who achieve the viability mark of 15%.
Think of it as 28 individual elections within the state. There is one statewide election for 47 at-large delegates, and 27 congressional district elections awarding from three to seven delegates, based on the district’s past performance.
