Florida is likely to gain two congressional seats for the 2022 midterm elections after the U.S. census is conducted this spring.
According to the Brookings Institution’s demographer, population growth and migratory shifts in the states would gain Texas three seats, Florida two, and one each in North Carolina, Arizona, Colorado, Montana and Oregon. California, Alabama, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and West Virginia would each lose one seat.
Florida would have a prize of 31 electoral votes (29 congressional plus two U.S. Senate seats) to deliver to the 2024 presidential winner of our general election vote.
