With Hurricane Michael devastation hitting Northwest Florida with a vengeance, the federal government passed its $19.1 billion disaster aid legislation this month, allowing for much-needed funding to flow toward ravaged regions.
The measure received Senate approval in May, with the House delayed by disagreements on additional funding for Puerto Rico and border security.
Florida is still climbing out of an estimated $6.6 billion in claims following the October 2018 storm. The Associated Press took a look at past storms across the South and how those whose communities were hit hard said, “You don’t really breathe until November.”
