The loss of a true gentleman and public servant

by
Sandy D’Alemberte

The Tallahassee community and the state lost a legend last week when former Florida State University President Sandy D’Alemberte passed away at the age of 85.

At a time when our political process is heading further away from civil discourse on many levels, D’Alemberte was long the gold standard for statesmanship and leadership. As current Florida State University President John Thrasher commented, “Everything he touched he led.”

D’Alemberte served in the Naval Reserve and in the Florida House of Representatives before beginning his historic run as president of Florida State. A leader and a gentleman who will be sorely missed.
