State senators have a new place to call home. A renovated Florida Senate Chamber was recently unveiled to much fanfare. This historic renovation was the first major overhaul to the Chamber since its construction in 1978.
Several design elements mirror the historic Capitol, including stained glass, egg and dart molding, and Ionic columns. A white dome harkens back to the style of the 1949 Chamber. Existing technology, such as the new voting system and robotic cameras, was incorporated into the design, while additional updates improved accessibility for people with unique abilities.
The $6-million renovation took eight months to complete.
