Joy Prescott, a fourth-grade math teacher at Pemayetv Emahakv Charter School in Glades County, was chosen from nearly 200,000 Florida public school teachers as the 2019 Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) Teacher of the Year.
In her role over the next year, Prescott will serve as the Christa McAuliffe Ambassador for Education, representing FLDOE, conducting workshops, addressing fellow teachers, parents and business leaders, and talking to student groups about careers in education across the state.
The 69 winners representing each school district were also recognized for their achievements and excellence in teaching, winning $10,000 each from FLDOE.
