U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Florida Jason Coody said his office collected more than $3.6 million in fines, fees and restitution payments for civil and criminal debts during the 2023-24 fiscal year. While restitution is distributed directly to victims, criminal fines and felony assessments are placed in the department’s Crime Victims Fund, which distributes the money to victim compensation and victim assistance programs.
Coody said the District also collected more than $3.8 million through criminal and civil asset forfeiture proceedings. Forfeited assets are used to restore funds to crime victims and for a variety of law enforcement purposes.
