For most people, the commute to work is monotonous, rarely considered a luxury. But for those experiencing homelessness, it’s critical to finding and maintaining a job — potentially life changing. The nonprofit staffing agency, First Step Staffing, understands that.
Through a recently awarded $100,000 grant from the City of Orlando, the nonprofit is now helping cover the cost of transportation to work from four homeless shelters in the area. Rides are provided using vans rented from Enterprise or via Uber.
First Step’s ultimate goal is to double the number people it can drive to work, from 50 to about 100 weekly.
