The rise of “instafrauds”, Instagram users that use bots to boost their followers, is becoming an increased area of concern for the integrity of organically established influencers.
The problem continually arises when brands are attracted to the big shiny follower numbers and neglect to see a user’s relevance and engagement rates, paving the way for instafrauds to make money from a false following, and in return leave the brand connecting poorly to its audience.
Finally though, it seems Instagram is making efforts to battle the bots, closing down “Instagress” recently – but there still remains a lot of unravelling to do.
