Avoid back-to-school impulse buys

School’s out for summer, but it’s never too soon to find back-to-school deals for your kids.

Tax-free weekend, which happens Aug. 9-11, is a great start: You’ll save money on the price of children’s backpacks, clothing or footwear that’s priced under $60.

Still, kids can make things difficult by encouraging parents to make impulse buys. To avoid temper tantrums, involve your kids in the planning. Create a shopping list together, and make a pact to stick to it. And choose clothing that can be used year-round, rather than something that’s only a cool summer trend.
