Tuesday, March 2 officially begins the 2021 Legislative Session, with Senate President Wilton Simpson (R-Trilby) and House Speaker Chris Sprowls (R-Palm Harbor) at the helm, presiding over the 40-member and 120-member chambers, respectively.
As the 2020 session adjourned in mid-March, the pandemic was just beginning to wreak havoc on Florida’s healthcare, education, tourism and overall economy. Nearly a year later, Gov. DeSantis presented Florida Leads a recommended budget of $96.6 billion, with $2.6 billion for various expenditures related to the state’s COVID-19 pandemic response and its impacts on Floridians.
Appropriation chairs warn this 2021-2022 budget will be lean and mean.
