Florida Senate President Joe Negron recently announced his decision to resign early and not complete his final two years in office.

In his resignation letter to the governor, he cited his belief in term limits (he will have already completed two, four-year terms in November) and his desire to allow as much time as possible for election officials to place the open seat on the November 2018 ballot – avoiding a special election.

Sen. Negron’s district includes Martin and St. Lucie counties. State Rep. Gayle Harrell and businesswoman Belinda Keiser have announced their plans to run for Negron’s senate seat.
