Seersucker Day at the Capitol

by

Events at the Florida Capitol always ramp up during the legislative session — everyone looks forward to Miami-Dade Days, for the music and paella. There are also less official, sartorial themes celebrated at the Capitol including Lilly Pulitzer, Boots and Seersucker Days.

Seersucker Day got its start in the United States Congress in 1996 by Senator Trent Lott, to reminisce about the traditional dress of Senators before air conditioning. Seersucker was created in the early 20th century by a clothier in New Orleans who was looking for fabric that would withstand humidity and frequent washings.
