The benefits of summer camp

Sending your kids off to camp isn’t always an easy choice. But, the American Camp Association (ACA) believes it’s the right choice.

The ACA Youth Outcomes Study showed that 96 percent of campers said that camp helped them make new friends, and 70 percent of parents said their child gained self-confidence at camp.

Clinical psychologist Robert Ditter says that camp helps kids develop three emotionally based competencies: cognitive emotional quotient (EQ), social EQ and emotional EQ. Ditter says these can’t be taught in the conventional sense, but are best developed through experience.
