Crayola teaches students to practice sustainability and environmental stewardship in the classroom. The ColorCycle program invites K-12 schools to collect used plastic markers from any brand, including dry erase markers and highlighters, and mail them back to Crayola to be recycled.
The ColorCycle website also offers lesson plans and other classroom activities to teach students about protecting the environment.
The company’s “green initiatives” are varied, from building a solar farm on its campus producing enough power to make 1 billion crayons and 500 million markers per year, to making markers with recycled plastic and colored pencils with reforested wood.
