Just when we thought Tallahassee was cold, our state reptile took it to a whole new extreme – frozen alligators.
Shallotte River Swamp Park in North Carolina posted pictures of multiple alligators flaunting their survival skills by creating breathing holes for their snouts in the frozen swamp. Park Manager George Howard shared that this mechanism is completely normal. Alligators can feel when the water is about to freeze and they prepare accordingly.
Photos of cold-stunned sea turtles, manatees and iguanas have also circled the web showing that Floridians are not the only ones strategizing on surviving the chilly New Year.
