Alan Wolfelt once said, “Food is symbolic of love when words are inadequate.” Well, local restaurateurs certainly showed their love throughout Hurricane Irma.
Mom and pop shops stepped up to the counter to feed those at shelters and first responders – from Gaines Street Pies making and delivering pizza to more than 500 evacuees, to Tasty Pastry firing up the bakery and supplying bread for OG Subs, to local DoubleTree by Hilton’s Drew McLeod cooking meals until the food ran low.
These are just a few selfless examples of our hometown heroes providing much needed relief to a storm-weary community.
