Help remove debris from your local coastline on International Coastal Cleanup Day, Saturday, Sept. 21. The Coastal Cleanup Day was started more than 30 years ago by Linda Maraniss, who worked for the Ocean Conservancy.
Thanks to volunteers from around the world, this event has encouraged people to take action to go beyond picking up trash and record each item collected on a standardized card to identify ways to eliminate ocean trash in the future. Today, the movement, which started in Texas, now spans across the country.
Visit Florida State Parks’ website to find a coastal cleanup planned near you.
