In communities across the country, affordable housing is increasingly scarce.
From the Colorado mountains to the Massachusetts islands, seasonal tourism exacerbates the problem: Without affordable housing for locals, ski lifts can’t operate, restaurants can’t meet capacity, shops can’t sell souvenirs. And everyone suffers.
Addressing the housing shortage isn’t an option; it’s a requirement. From where I sit (in a tourist mecca, halfway between Boston and New York City), tackling the national housing shortage begs creative solutions. In this series, I’ll discuss them – by shining a light on communities doing the hard work of solving an issue that affects us all.
