Happy Hanukkah

Hanukkah, or Chanukah, begins at sunset on Thursday, Dec. 10. While some of the holiday’s traditions are well known, here are a few other fun facts about “The Festival of Lights.”

• The dreidel features a letter on each side which represent the saying, “Nes Gadol Haya Sham,” meaning “a great miracle happened there.”

• Hanukkah dishes, like latkes, are fried in oil to celebrate the miracle oil that the Maccabees kept lit for eight days.

• Gift-giving is not an original Hanukkah tradition.

Chabad of Tallahassee will hold a virtual menorah lighting each night of Hanukkah. You can learn more here.
