In celebration of Amelia Earhart’s birthday, born July 24, 1897, we reflect on two of the many accomplishments made during her storied career.
Earhart set her first aviation record 97 years ago on Oct. 22, 1922, becoming the first woman to fly solo above 14,000 feet.
Just 10 years later, on May 20, 1932, she was the first female pilot to complete a solo, nonstop flight across the Atlantic Ocean. Earhart departed from Harbour Grace, Newfoundland, Canada, and 15 hours later, she landed in Northern Ireland on May 21.
