More than 235 years ago, with the United States in its infancy and just months away from the end of the Revolutionary War, The Pennsylvania Evening Post delivered America’s first daily newspaper on May 30, 1783.

The Pennsylvania Evening Post was short-lived as a daily newspaper and ended its circulation in 1784. The Post is also famously credited as the first newspaper to publish the United States Declaration of Independence on July 6, 1776.

Today, there are more than 1,000 daily newspapers across the United States, according to the U.S. Newspaper Directory at the Library of Congress.
