The House Healthcare Regulation Subcommittee voted unanimously in favor of Tallahassee Rep. Gallop Franklin’s bill (HB 159) authorizing pharmacists to work collaboratively with physicians to help adults exposed to HIV. It would allow pharmacists to screen for HIV exposure, advise that they seek a physician consultation and dispense HIV-PEP medication prescribed by a licensed health care practitioner.

“This legislation empowers pharmacists to use their talents as trusted health care professionals to actively engage in preventing the spread of HIV in our communities,” Franklin said. “I am deeply grateful for my colleagues’ overwhelming support of this legislation to protect lives in Florida.”
