The coat hanger shortage hits the cleaners

All over Florida, your dry cleaners has an important message for you: Please bring back your coat hangers. We need them.

Many dry cleaners didn’t survive the pandemic. Business vanished, often overnight, as most lost 83 percent to 92 percent of sales. Higher shipping costs, a manufacturing shortage in China, where most coat hangers are made, and the supply chain disruptions have more than doubled the cost. Even with higher prices, there are fewer to be had. The “strut” (the cardboard tube used to hang pants) is also in short supply.

Help recycle those hangers. Local cleaners will be grateful.
