Tax-friendly states

Sandra Block, senior editor at Kiplinger, recently released the top 10 most tax-friendly states in the U.S., and Florida came in at No. 4.

The average local sales tax in the sunshine state is around 6.8 percent, with no state income tax and property taxes below the midpoint for the U.S. One reason the state is so popular for retirees is that food, prescription and nonprescription drugs are also tax-exempt, which is helpful for retirees on a fixed income.
