Florida opioid crisis needs federal funding

by
florida newspaper

Let’s commend the Florida Legislature for recently addressing the opioid crisis, especially alongside many other important regulatory items. Now, we call on federal elected officials to fund naloxone, a life-saving drug administered to patients who overdose from opioids, to CDC approved Medicaid and Medicare beneficiaries.

Medicaid and Medicare patients are prescribed painkillers at twice the rate of non-Medicaid patients and are at six times greater risk of overdosing. Federal funding allows our pharmacists to prescribe naloxone when appropriate and help save lives.

Ask your congress member to support funding for naloxone to help address our national opioid crisis.
